OpenCann is a DAO-governed data marketplace where anyone can find, fund, and participate in cannabis research. Aligning public and private incentives to maximize the value and availability of data supports the proliferation of common knowledge as a public good. OpenCann is a focused implementation of this principle through the combination of a dataDAO and impact certificate marketplace. In the future, all data will be encrypted by default (looking at vSelf and Lit Protocol) and permissions will be tokenized by the owner, similar to forming a subDAO. Beyond co-governance of data, OpenCann also seeks to implement compute over data (COD, e.g. edge computing) using a composable file system where both data and code can be indexed to enable collaborative data science on BOS. In the case of OpenCann, the long-term goal of utilizing this tech is to accelerate the development of new botanical-based therapeutics. --- ### Why? Cannabis research is primarily funded by private organizations. This has led to data silos and massively uncoordinated redundant efforts especially when combined with the residual trust gap in cannabis data-sharing practices due to over a century of prohibition. These issues can be solved through a web3 native implementation for a data DAO dashboard by facilitating increased transparency, verifiability, and reproducibility; bridging the trust gap in cannabis data-sharing practices. I'm a molecular biologist and former CEO/CTO of cannabis R&D laboratory in California. I chose to build OpenCann on Near over two years ago specifically to tackle this problem by aligning with Near's focus on simple UX because my target end users are non-web3 native cannabis and hemp industry participants. Through BOS Academy, I was able to learn enough to hack a skeleton dashboard together during BOSHacks. After submitting I will continue to work on developing BOS components that can be used by any data DAO (e.g. Hyperfiles and Hypercerts) and then test their efficacy using OpenCann. --- ### How? Please watch the demo video for a complete explanation of how all these features interact. - Integrated community page and marketplace dashboard - Bringing real-world data assets on-chain: data and algorithms (instructions to run containerized apps using decentralized computing infrastructure) - [Hyperfiles](hyperfile.xyz): a type schema created using everything to index data and algorithms in a fully composable manner. This is incorporated on the backend. [Full documentation](https://opencann.notion.site/composable-files-d1ee9dfea5174e57a4b67fca683f4497?pvs=4). - [Hypercerts on BOS](https://youtu.be/uu6ABkJSqsI): an implementation of Hyperfiles to enable minting Impact Certificates on BOS. The input form widget can be found on the "Publish" tab. *Note: Hypercerts on BOS was submitted to the Funding the Commons Public Goods hackathon.* [Full documentation](https://opencann.notion.site/Hypercerts-on-BOS-a779c2abf7e54e4bb5782e569dd14419?pvs=4). - [User demographics input form](https://www.opencann.net/#/opencann.near/widget/profile.demographics): - [Consumer survey](https://near.social/opencann.near/widget/ExperienceSurvey) to collaboratively generate new data sets. Found on the "Publish" tab. - [Marketplace](https://www.opencann.net/#/opencann.near/widget/dashboard?&tab=marketplace) contains three categories: data market, code market, and impact market - Gateway deployed at [OpenCann.net](https://opencann.net) --- - Mailchain: using to enable private messaging between OpenCann members, located in [#/opencann.near/widget/dashboard.sidebar]() - NEAR ReFi: tokenizing RWAs (data assets and JSON config files for containerized apps); data -> code -> impact -> public goods funding - ProofOfVibes: [vibes on feed tab](https://www.opencann.net/#/opencann.near/widget/dashboard?tab=feed) --- ###### 💸 Bounties: ["Mailchain","NEAR ReFI","ProofOfVibes"] ###### 🔗 Project Link: https://opencann.net ###### 🎥 Demo Link: https://youtu.be/0FYAXJbAC9o
