@bo.near [Posted on Developer DAO Board](https://near.social/#/devgovgigs.near/widget/Post?id=622) ## Solution: Fellowship Proposal by Bo Yao ###### Requested amount: 17250 USDC ###### Requested sponsor: @neardevgov.near My name is Bo Yao. I've been an active open source contributor since 2016 and with NEAR since 2019. I have developed the NEAR Core release pipeline, improved the robustness of Rainbow Bridge, introduced several performance enhancement to NEAR Contract Runtime and lead the development of NEAR SDK JS. - [Github Profile](https://github.com/ailisp) - [Telegram](https://t.me/ailisp) Currently I'm working as Technical Team Lead of the DevHub platform. I strongly believe blockchain developers deserve best of the class developer tooling and it's our goal to help ecosystem to reach that. # Focus Areas As the previous code owner of NEAR SDK JS and one of the major authors of workspaces-js, I am excited to guide contributors working on these to repos: - [near-sdk-js](https://github.com/near/near-sdk-js), - [near-workspaces-js](https://github.com/near/workspaces-js) I will plan for the next six months development plan, guide and help contributors, including regular paid contributors to implement features, address bugs and user-experience issues, and bring community support. I will dedicate 4 hours per week to guide those who actively contribute to these projects and I commit to responding within 24 hours during workdays. # Objectives I'd like to look for and guide one full time equivalent software engineer of expertise equivalent to [SDE-II Amazon level](https://www.levels.fyi/companies/amazon/salaries/software-engineer/levels/sde-ii/locations/greater-seattle-area), (or two part time engineers) for the following activities in the two open source repos: - Brainstorm and participate in the roadmap planning for the next six month's development - Participate in the issue grooming and fits issues into the development planning - Start implementing features and fixing issues - Address community reported issues and pull requests in a timely manner - Make next major release # Budget I would like to request DevDAO to reserve $17,250 USDC for the fellowship rewards; see the details below. I estimate that a Software Engineer with the level of expertise equivalent to [SDE-II Amazon level](https://www.levels.fyi/companies/amazon/salaries/software-engineer/levels/sde-ii/locations/greater-seattle-area) can become self-sufficient within 2 months. According to levels.xyz, base compensation for this level ranges from $55,000 USD/year in Eastern Europe, $83,000-112,000 USD/year in Western Europe, and $150,000-185,000 USD/year in the US. There are also stocks offering with the 1-year cliff, which is not applicable here yet, but we may revisit it retrospectively. I will balance the budget according to the Developer Governance funding guidelines while ensuring fair compensation for contributors. With a budget of $15,000 USDC ($180,000 / 12 * 0.5 * 2), I can reward at least 2 active part-time contributors from the US or 3-4 part-time contributors from Europe working for a month. I can scale it to more guided active contributors in the upcoming months, but I would like to start with 2-4. Also, I expect that after 3-6 months the active contributors will become successful fellowship leaders themselves. I believe that guidance success should be defined through the success of the contributors who I am guiding. Thus, I’d like to request a reward equivalent to 15% of the rewards my fellow contributors receive in their first 3 months of onboarding, and 10% of the rewards in the next 6 months while guiding them to become independent maintainers and fellowship leaders. With the $15,000 USDC budget for the contributors' rewards and 15% fellowship reward, the total requested budget reservation is, as it is already mentioned above, $17,250 USDC, which will be only released directly to the fellow contributors after they submit contribution reports and NEAR community and I (as their fellowship leader) review it. # Contact me If you are looking for a fellowship leader in the areas I mentioned above, please leave a comment with your public resume under this post. Please indicate the type of contribution you'd like to make. You can help the development in three ways: - If you are an open source contributor with limited availability - You can help on small, day-sized issues that on the github - You can apply for a grant to get paid to work on week-sized projects - If you want to contribute your time regularly (works at least 20 hours a week) - You can apply to be a paid contributor. Indicate specific work you want to accomplish by making a solution post on a bi-weekly basis and input number of hours and compensation. - If you have already deep experience with NEAR open source tools, or have success records in contribution before, or have worked as above two categories: - You can also apply to be a fellowship leader by posting a solution like this one. Indicate what projects you'd like to lead, goals, budget for people you mentored and budget for yourself. - If you work as both a fellowship lead and an active contributor, the budget can be equivalent to an engineering manager of your level.
