**Open Forest Protocol (OFP)** 🌱is a blockchain-based open-source platform for the **communal verification, reporting, and financing of forestry projects**. OFP’s mission is to accelerate the global response to climate change through eco-friendly solutions. **NEAR**, as a climate-neutral blockchain with fast throughput and low transaction fees, was the ideal place to build their project, getting development support from the INC4 team. The OFP's idea is to build a product that would allow **reforestation** and **afforestation projects, conservation organizations**, and forest managers to **easily measure, report, and verify (MRV) environmental data** from their land. The current MRV landscape is expensive and inaccessible, inhibiting the establishment of a global carbon economy. Over the past few years, we’ve developed several tools for the OFP, including **Explorer, data reporting and validation dashboards, and the Forester app**. These user-friendly and innovative tools help researchers and conservationists track and monitor forest health, and they have played a significant role in OFP's efforts to protect the world's forests. **The OFP** 🌳 has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach **reforestation**, by providing a decentralized and transparent platform for individuals and organizations to contribute to the fight against climate change. It is a powerful example of how **blockchain technology** can be used for social good, and it offers hope for a greener and more sustainable future.
