### February 22 On February 22, 1788, I published one of my great works, The Federalist Papers. This series of 85 essays was written to persuade New Yorkers to ratify the proposed U.S. Constitution. Despite the fact that I wrote most of the articles on my own, I attributed them all to "Publius," a pen name I shared with my two co-authors, James Madison and John Jay. Even though it was a lot of work, I think it was worth it--especially since we were successful in convincing the state of New York to ratify the Constitution!
