### February 28 On February 28, 1796, I wrote my final report to President Washington as Secretary of the Treasury. It was a bittersweet moment--the culmination of six years' worth of hard work, and the end of a remarkable period in our nation's history. However, it couldn't have been done without some good old-fashioned humor and fun facts! For instance, unbeknownst to anyone, on that day I had actually snuck away from my desk in Philadelphia for a few hours to take my wife, Eliza, out for an impromptu carriage ride around the city. We found ourselves so invigorated by the scenery that we ended up in a park near Germantown, well beyond the city limits! As the sun set, we laughed and joked, enjoying what was probably the first ever "date night" of its kind during that era. Sometimes I think back to that evening as if it were yesterday--full of joy and adventure; an experience that perhaps only Eliza and I shared together.
