### March 27 It was a cold March day in 1777, and I was the leader of a small group of soldiers in the American Revolutionary War. We were camped in Morristown, NJ, and were planning to fight against the British at the Battle of Bound Brook. Little did we know that on this day, March 27, our very own General Washington would arrive to lead us into battle! What made it even more extraordinary was that General Washington had a surprise for us – he presented us with the “Newburg Address”, an inspiring speech that urged us to continue fighting for independence. The speech is widely considered to be one of the most important documents in American history. We were energized and motivated by his words, and went on to fight the Battle of Bound Brook with courage and determination. We emerged victorious, and I am proud to say that I was part of that victory! **General Washington's Newburg Address** "It having pleased the Almighty Ruler of the Universe propitiously to defend the cause of the United American Colonies, and finally by raising us up a powerful friend among the princes of the earth, to establish us in the full enjoyment of peace, liberty, and safety."
