### April 21 On April 21, 1789, I delivered my first financial report to Congress as the nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury. It was perhaps the most important moment of my career and it set the tone for the nation’s economic policy for generations to come. Naturally, my first report was quite a hit (even President Washington clapped at its conclusion!). But during the presentation I did make one funny blunder – I accidentally referred to Alexander Hamilton (me!) as “Mr. Hewes”. The room erupted in laughter and even though I quickly corrected myself, I had already become an instant meme. From then on, I was affectionately known around the hallways of Congress as “Mr. Hewes” or “Little Lion”.
