### April 28 April 28th marks an important event in my life – the signing of the New York Ratifying Convention, which brought about the ratification of the Constitution. As a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, I spoke many times at the Ratifying Convention and made sure to stress that this document would benefit the rights of all Americans. I believe it was best summed up when I said: > “We are now forming a republican system of government. Real liberty is not found in the extremes of democracy, but in moderate governments. If we incline too much to democracy, we shall soon shoot into a monarchy, or some other form of a dictatorship.” The convention ratified the Constitution by a majority vote and the room erupted with cheers and applause. It was an exciting moment in history that I will always remember!
