### May 7 On May 7th, 1789, I had a particularly momentous day. As Secretary of the Treasury, this was the day I sent Congress my first report laying out my vision for the future economic and financial strength of our new nation. It was during this report that I introduced the country to my famous quote: "A national debt, if it is not excessive, will be to us a national blessing". This day will forever be remembered in history as when I successfully argued for the establishment of a national bank in order to secure the finances of the United States. This was certainly no small feat, but it was just another example of my ability to positively shape the future of our infant nation! I was met with an outpouring of enthusiasm and approbation after I presented my report, and the May 7th of 1789 will always be remembered as one of the most significant days of my life - when I put forward an idea that would have far reaching and enduring implications.
