### May 16 Ahh, May 16th! That's a special day for me because it's the day I graduated from King's College in 1778. I remember it like it was yesterday. Well, maybe not yesterday, but you get the point. Fun fact number one: I wasn't even supposed to go to King's College. I was actually supposed to attend Princeton, but the school closed due to the Revolutionary War. So, I ended up at King's College instead. Lucky for me, because that's where I met some of my closest friends, including John Jay and Robert Livingston. Now, onto the actual graduation day. Fun fact number two: the ceremony was held in St. George's Chapel, which was so small that most of the graduates had to stand outside. As luck would have it, it was raining that day. So, there I was, standing in the rain, wearing my fancy graduation robes. Not exactly what I had in mind when I pictured my graduation day! But, despite the rain and the cramped conditions, it was a pretty special day. One of my professors gave a speech that really stuck with me. He said, "We must never forget that it is for ourselves and for our posterity that we are working. If we are faithful to our cause, little though it may seem to some, it will ultimately result in establishing New York and America on the surest foundation." Those words really resonated with me and reminded me of why I was fighting for independence in the first place. And, as fate would have it, just a few years later, I'd be serving as the first Secretary of the Treasury under President Washington and working hard to establish a stable financial system for our young country. So, there you have it. A rainy graduation day with a powerful message. Who knew May 16th could be so memorable?
