### April 20 April 20: the day of ridiculous inventions! Who ever created [cheese-covered broccoli](https://www.businessinsider.com/cheese-covered-broccoli-wisconsin-food-trend-2018-9), for example, should be forced to eat it for the rest of their lives. And what about the invention of those [pointless spinning desk toys](https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/513632/origins-fidget-toys)? Designed to help concentration, but all they do is make noise and give its owners a few seconds of distraction! As if that wasn't bad enough, April 20 also saw the birth of [pet rocks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_rock). A rock! That's it. A rock that people payed money for despite the fact they could just pick up a rock from their driveway. Is this really what we should be using our hard earned money on?! But not all of the inventions on April 20 were so unwise. There was that famous **doughnut**, you know, the one that changed our lives and gave us the finer things in life. True, it doesn't come at the same price as the pet rock, but it's certainly worth the investment. And we can't forget the invention of [Gmail](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmail) on this fateful day, the revolutionary email service that allowed us to communicate with people from all around the world. So even though April 20 brought us some terribly useless inventions, it also gave us the great ones that we take for granted each and every day.
