# 🎉 NEAR YEAR RESOLUTIONS: 2024 (posted via [[Build DAO Gateway](https://nearbuilders.org/feed))] ## 🌟 REFLECTIONS ON THE PAST YEAR Another year of hustling and being the NEAR plug. Life is good. * started building PotLock + Nada.bot, growing an engineering team. and shifting public goods narrative on NEAR * -Supported projects (and in some cases directly PMd), builders groups, developers, and DAOs, NDC, DevHub, Creatives DAO, NEAR Workshops, BOSHacks, BuildDAO, Onboard DAO, MagicBuild, Metamask Snaps, DiscoverBOS, Proof Of Vibes, NEAR Impact, GenaDrop Gateway + Swap, DropWallet, Jutsu * Went all over the world like the Web3 batman ## 🎯 NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS Impact & Intent Driven: create a vibrant public goods fund ecosystem, fund what matters and that drive impact in the world. ### Focusing on Product over Community I need to focus on building products that translate to metrics I can control over focus on communities. When I do focus on community it should be in the context of improving contributors that are related to expanding product. **Double down focus on grow PotLock is a product & protocol.** **DEVELOPMENT**: * Ship audited quadratic rounds * Get 4 funding strategies built (see [https://potlock.org/legos](https://potlock.org/legos)) * 3 clients that are efficient. PotLock BOS App + Gateway, traditional NextJS application, and Flutter iOS and React Native mobile application’ * Attestation tracking and framework working with partners like [Hyperfiles](https://github.com/flowscience/hyperfiles) and NEAR Foundation * More to be decided * Build features to onboard traditional non profit * Gamify impact and build system for more active users **GROWTH**: * Get at least 3000 unique donors * 500 projects by end of year. * Get 1 million dollars running through contracts to fund public goods. * Run at least 10 successful quadratic funding rounds. **Build [nada.bot](https://nada.bot) as successful sybil resistance too with apps and through documentation** **GROWTH:** * with 10 sybil checks * 1000 verified humans, * get 5 contracts / and or dapps to integrate **COMMUNITY** * Support open source community with at least 30 contributors to PotLock & Nadabot. Developers, community, round managers. * Launch 2 thought leadership pieces a month. VIbrant [https://blog.potlock.org ](https://blog.potlock.org)and newsletter at [https://subscribe.potlock.org](https://subscribe.potlock.org) * Launch the [Public Goods Podcast](https://publicgoods.fm) ### Ship Current Project & Reallocated Capacity. Need to focus on one thing. Product over community. Less random builds, consolidate engineering teams. Focus less on politics and only things I can control. Deprioritize other builds and reallocate teams to build public goods infrastructure. No more heavy organization unless it pertains to public goods funding From now on if I allocate capacity or support initiative it's only open source if there is a developer community that will fork, or if it can translate to something that brings in users. Say no to more, ask for less money except for mission critical initiatives. If I participate in hackathon it should be to experiment with something that benefits over protocol. . - Ship out Mintbos[ mintbase.genadrop.xyz](mintbase.genadrop.xyz) - Get DropWallet operational into production [https://wallet.genadrop.xyz](https://wallet.genadrop.xyz) - Finish [Cplanet](cplanet.org), contest, etc - Deprioritize other builds and reallocate teams to build public goods infrastructure ### Support & Decentralized Current Intiaities Still have obligations in the DAO space with Onboard DAO, Build DAO, and NFT WG I need to transition outside of. * Support [Onboard DAO](https://onboarddao.org) as a successful initiative. Help operationally set up wallet builders. Fund 5 successful projects in the ecosystem. * Support [Build DAO](nearbuilders.org)’s decentralized contributor network and make a official ecosystem partner in the NEAR ecosystem. Help grow to 100+ contributors. Help facilitate retroactive rewards distributions and more funding experiments with Build DAO. Help 10 projects scale. Leave council role and streamline to other builders in the space * Support NFT WG as Technical Advisor. Support a vibrant community of ecosystem projects and proliferate open source tools in the ecosystem. ### Health & Spirituality Life isn’t about caring. Its important that I am approving of becoming stronger and healthier, finding work life balance. Impact is futile if I don’t change myself first. * Sleep with the sun, set circadian rhythms, this means less Asia * No processed food, all food needs to have utility. * Be grateful everyday and live everyday like it's our last. * Stay away from temptations. Halal vibes. * Less social media unless directly attribute to marketing * No conflicts. Its not worth being right or any conflict. Don’t get attached to these worldly things. Do not burn bridges. * Learn relevant knowledge, be student of the game and your field ### Caution As the bullrun approaches, more scammers and negative energy will come into the fold. Watch how you move, who you affiliate with, and what their intentions are with. Quality over quantity. Surround yourself with people who you can learn from. ## 🔮What I would lIke to see for NEAR eco to tackle What happens in the NEAR ecosystem is there is so much to do and I try to tackle it all, but I can no longer do this, not because of burn out, but more so I need to focus on one problem and do it well. While that “thing” is Public Goods funding mechanisms. However, we still need to reflect, especially as some might consider me an influential person on NEAR and part of the “state” of NEAR. I think its important that we influence other things for people to od. * **Decentralize Validators Network**: every quarter we should be adding at least 30 new validators and incentivizing people to do so. We should be targeting validators in regulatory friendly regions * **Hedge on developer ecosystem & native developers.** In NEAR we doubled down on DevHub, but in reality we need plural developer ecosystem outside of DevHub, Build DAO, and PotLock. We also need an emphasis for native developers outside of just BOS. * **Foundation & Funding sources emphasis on public goods.** See this know and in the past where funding goes to projects who don’t have PMF and end up leaving nothing behind for projects to ship faster * **Cross chain and chain abstraction.** Outside of being dependent on Pagoda for chain abstraction. Build before marketing. Solana, Cosmos, all on BOS. NEAR enabled bitcoin smart contract functionality. Every application should integrate keypom, metatransactions, and progressive custody. * **Token economy: **build useful initiatives with value. I would refrain from over memeing unless it drives innovation like tooling, new standards and core contributors. * **Social Emphasis:** currently near.social is more of a 2 man dev team developer platform than a useful social platform, We need Mirror’s and real social layers built on top of this. * **Decentralized BD & Partner Engineering**: Ecosystem needs to be more proactive on onboarding and building solutions for different entity outside of just paying traditional companies for deals * **Weariness of Eth Ecosystem & Integrating Ourselves: **name a successful NEAR application that is still or came from Ehtereum ecosystem or even Solana. Ethereum alignment is good for manufacturing but getting Eth native teams and paying them to integrate isn’t the best opportunity especially if we don’t have demand. * **Keep NEAR Cheap**: As near price goes up the price of creating a NEAR Social profile gets more expensive and minting an nft can go to 10 cents. We need to actively lower the costs * **Infrastructure & Middleware**: free and robust infra so NEAT incident doesn’t continue to happen * **Streamlined Metrics for Regional Hubs**: a streamlined process and cross coordination for strategically targeting regions. Rise of network states and mobilized and collaborative communities across the NEAR global ecosystem. * **Capital for Projects -> Translate to Senior Engineer**: the best way to get engineers involved is having them become founders of funded projects or working ina funded project. The more senior engineers we have the more innovation in the ecosystem especially aligning incentives for standards. We need to streamline raises for projects. * **Knowledge of Ecosystem: **across everyone at NEAR Foundation, Proximity, regional hubs and all ecosystem players should be audited for on chain usage of ecosystem application. * **Onboarding form Web2.5**: translate all users into native applications * **Retainment in ecosystem: **We should never let a valuable skilled person in NEAR to leave the ecosystem. Retainment in ecosystem should be key and relocating workforce into roles that best suit them. * **Robust Ecosystem Map**: NEAR Catalog and discoverBOS are doing this as well as PotLock and NEAR Horizon in some capacity, but efforts to track and measure impact of projects should be streamlined. ## 📊 MEASURING SUCCESS Went over this before * Number of verified users (nada.bot) * Funding allocated * Projects onboarded * Overall sentiment on life. Positively spread * Contributors onboarded #build #nearyearresolutions2024 #resolution
