**BitcoinCan** **PROBLEM SPACE:** Environmental Sustainability **SUMMARY:** BitcoinCan is built to increase recycling efficiency and bitcoin adoption by providing bitcoin payments for recyclables. **TEAM:** Ayvan Krishan **WHAT I LEARNED:** I learned about lightning URL channels and how this could play a part in building a software / service for mass adoption. LnURLs are so cool cause you can mass produce them and preload them into a SDcard. This allows for the payee to offer bitcoin payments without constant upkeep of the amount of bitcoin in open lightning channel. Also allows for someone to not abuse the preloaded LNURLs. I learned more about NYC bottle bill recycling industry and need for this service. There is a proof of concept already in place with BTCSolutionPlus offering recycling pick up and offering bitcoin via lightning network for 1000+ beverage containers ($50+). I learned how to use BOS for the first time and to build a front end development version of the machine. I learned all the different channels and avenues this product can be available for, e.g. recycling centers, reverse vending machines, multi-family recycling pickup service, partnering with SMB like BTCSolutionPlus. I learned about the actual profit margin between recycling in bottle bill states. I learned about upcycling and the influencers that are making headway by turning trash into fashion. I learned about NEAR and it’s really cool concept to develop applications on a front end dev application that’s simplified React & JavaScript.
