NDC New Voting Mechanism: A Guide The NDC stands for the acronym Near Digital Collective. They are concerned with governance in the Near Ecosystem. Why the New Voting Mechanism? During the just-concluded elections, the NDC faced some challenges, such as: One Person, One Vote Issue: In the last elections, they used a simple way to get votes, which unintentionally made it easier and about politics. This system helped people who could get votes fast, but it compromised how fair the voting process was supposed to be. Concentration of Wealth: Looking at things closely, they discovered that only a few accounts held most NEAR tokens. Just 1% of the richest accounts have a lot more tokens than others. This unequal distribution had an impact on fairness within the ecosystem. Proposed Changes Encouraging Active Participants: The new plan suggests that people who are active in the ecosystem should have more influence. This will help those who do a lot of transactions would have more say. This idea wants to reward people for being involved and helpful, rather than just owning a lot of tokens. Snapshot Mechanism for Fairness: The NDC has decided to take a snapshot of holdings before onboarding to the new system to help prevent large holders from cheating by dividing their tokens into different accounts. Implementation of Quadratic Voting Formula: Quadratic voting formula has been put in place to help solve the problem of rich people having too much power. It works by using the square root of the tokens someone has to calculate their voting power. What are the New Voting Options? Here are the new voting options the NDC deliberated on: A more democratic approach A balanced approach A less democratic approach Security Improvement Mitigating Bot Influence Cryptographic Verification Decentralized Approach Private Voting The NDC decided that the new voting mechanism would be finalized in mid-May so it's ready for the elections in the middle of June. Their main aim is to make sure the system becomes more decentralized and democratic.
